Bangalore, Karnataka is awaiting approval on the construction of the first level III data center in India, according to a report by Express Buzz.

The data center will host government applications and related data, with a storage capacity of over 90TB.

The state government has already prepared a request for proposal for the data center, which is waiting to be approved by the central government.

"In about two months from the date of approval, which could be any day now, the data center will be operational," M N Vidyashankar, principal secretary of the department of E-governance told Express.

The technical committee of the state E-governance Department has cleared the RFP, and it has been sent to the Department of Information Technology, which will also partially fund the project.

The data center will cost between $12.8 million (Rs. 60 crore) to $13.9 million (Rs. 65 crore), and will be build near the Vikasa Soudha building.

The facility's first phase will have a capacity of over 50TB, followed by an extension to bring it over 90TB storage capacity for its second phase.

A level III data center typically has advanced storage capacity and has 98.98 percent availability making it continually operational around the clock.

Currently, Karnataka has a level II data center at Khanija Bhavan.
