Web host 1&1 Internet has become is the first web hosting company to globally launch dedicated servers with six-core AMD processors, providing outstanding performance with high-level availability and reliability, and excellent connectivity via 1&1's best-in-class data centers.

According to its Tuesday announcement, 1&1 has expanded its server portfolio with two additional premium models for professional use as a web or application server. In an independent benchmark study, the new servers with Hexa-Core technology delivered up to 47 per cent higher performance as compared to the top Quad-Core models.

This extremely powerful hardware is most beneficial when used for resource-intensive applications such as developing and hosting applications, distributed computing, virtual platforms, or online games.

As of this announcement, 1&1's new flagship server is the Hexa-Core 3XL, with 2 AMD Hexa-Core Opteron 2423 CPUs, 32 GB of RAM, professional redundancy with RAID 5, and 2 Terabytes of usable disk space. The Hexa-Core 3XL is priced starting at $599.99 per month.

The second addition, the Hexa-Core XXL, also provides 12 processor cores, with 16 GB RAM and 1.5 Terabytes of usable disk space. The Hexa-Core XXL starts at $499.99 per month. In light of the introduction of the Hexa-Core XXL, 1&1 has cut the price of its predecessor, the Quad-Core XXL server, from starting at $499.99 to $449.99.

1&1's Hexa-Core XXL and Hexa-Core 3XL servers are available in Linux or Windows configurations. 1&1 also offers a "Website Server" solution for users running a web server. Furthermore, all 1&1 dedicated server solutions include two physical hard drives in RAID configuration, a free domain name, 3,000 free email accounts, a dedicated SSL certificate for secure information transfer and generous traffic allocations.

Regularly, the commitment period for both new server packages can be selected as either 1 month with $99 set-up fee, or 12 months with no set-up fee. In March and April, however, 1&1 is offering the first six months at 50 per cent off with a 12 month contract commitment.

The new servers also deliver on the company's commitment to energy efficiency. 1&1 uses the energy-saving High Efficiency version of the AMD Opteron series, meaning the performance benefits are accompanied by high efficiency. With a 2 GHz clock frequency, the fast Hexa-Core processors consume only 55 Watt Average CPU Power and 79 Watt TDP Thermal Design Power.
