Data center infrastructure and services provider Datalink has been awarded an $8 million contract with a Midwestern global IT consulting and software company to optimize its disaster recovery capabilities using disk-based, site-to-site replication technologies.
According to the Tuesday announcement, Datalink will also consolidate and virtualize the unnamed client's data center storage infrastructure, making it more agile and easier to manage. In addition to hardware and software, this contract includes Datalink professional services and customer support.
Datalink has been hired to provide a more robust DR solution with better overall performance across its block and file-based environments. To this end, Datalink recommended Hitachi Data Systems' disk-based, site-to-site replication and storage solutions deployed in multiple data centers to ensure the ongoing availability of applications. Datalink also advised the customer to consolidate and virtualize its existing block-based storage environment, and consolidate its file services infrastructures.
This is expected to eliminate the need for hundreds of file servers, as well as related management cycles and maintenance costs.

According to an agreement announced recently, Phoenix-based data center operator Phoenix NAP was given the ability to offer clients Datalink disaster recovery and business continuity services through the Phoenix NAP facility.
