Rumors started circulating around the webosphere that Yahoo! was going to turn the plug on MyBlogLog in January.
MyBlogLog is a blog communities service that Yahoo! acquired in 2007 for $10 million. The acquisition allowed users to log in to MyBlog using their Yahoo login information, but it didn’t change much of the interface. It was one of the services that allowed bloggers to connect with other bloggers, and put faces to the people visiting your blog.
Chris Yeh, the Head of YDN, responded on the Yahoo! Developer Network blog that the rumors were not entirely true.
“Yesterday, rumors surfaced around Yahoo!’s imminent shutdown of its MyBlogLog service. Frankly, it’s no secret within Yahoo! that we’re actively discussing the future of MyBlogLog. However, it’s also true that we have not made any final decisions at this point.”
MyBlogLog allows users to display their feeds from all of their social networking sites and share it with other MyBlogLog users. In return, you are able to view their feeds as well.
Users can add their blog to MyBlogLog, which goes to a review/approval process before it can show up in MyBlogLog. When it is approved, MyBlogLog creates a community for your blog. In your blog community page, MyBlogLog shows a screenshot of your blog, author(s), related content, members, and newest members. You can also add as many tags as you want to help others find it. MyBlogLog also offers statistics to let you know know where your users are coming from, what content they are viewing, and where they want after leaving your site.
