LunarPages Buys Colocation Space from Latysis

Colocation, managed services and disaster recovery provider Latisys announced on Thursday that it had been chosen to provide data center colocation and managed IT services to web hosting provider LunarPages.

Among the better-known hosting providers, LunarPages provides hosting to more than 150,000 customers, according to the announcement, and its hosting services range from $3-per-month shared hosting plans to dedicated servers and managed services.

The colocation deal is for space in Latisys’s Irvine, California facility, a SAS 70 certified data center that provides a 99.999 percent uptime service level agreement, high-density colocation with 225 watts of power per square foot, managed security and redundant power and cooling infrastructure.

A more comprehensive package of information on the Irvine data center is available from the Latisys website.

While the news is essentially a customer deal for Latisys, it is made somewhat more significant by the fact that LunarPages is a hosting provider itself – the sort of company that might have more strict built-in requirements for performance and uptime than other potential colocation customers. As such, signing a hosting company as a customer tends to serve as a particularly notable vote of confidence.

There is no mention in the announcement of LunarPages relocating any equipment to the facility, and it would be assuming a lot to suggest that would be part of the plan. It’s more likely that the company is expanding its existing data center footprint with the deal.

"We consider our data center partner to be a critical part of the Lunarpages team, which is why we invest in only the best,” says Lunarpages COO George Natzic, quoted in the announcement. “By turning to Latisys, our customers will benefit from a SAS70 compliant infrastructure and continuous uptime. At the same time, we have assurance and peace of mind that our IT environment is secure.”
